Training

The Centre for Clinical Effectiveness provides a range of education and training activities focusing on development of skills in evidence based health care.  The Centre hosts twice yearly short courses, in Autumn and Spring, to facilitate the development of skills in identifying, appraising and implementing evidence from health care literature into practice.  The seminar series draws upon the expertise of the Centre for Clinical Effectiveness, the Australiasian Cochrane Centre, the Centre for Gender in Medicine and core staff from the Monash Institute of Health Services Research.

The most popular and sought-after seminars include:

• An introduction to biostatistics and computer programs available for data management, description and basic analysis of clinical epidemiological data (Stata and XL Statistics)
• An introduction to evidence based healthcare, including sessions on the need for evidence based health care, where and how to look for the evidence and how to decide  if the evidence is any good
• An introduction to qualitative research and questionnaire design
• An introduction to the importance of a gender competent approach to scientific inquiry and clinical practice
• Research ethics and clinical trials (conducted in partnership with the Southern Health Human Research Ethics Committee)
