TAC Evidence Service

TAC Evidence Service

TAC & WorkSafe Working Together

The Victorian Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and WorkSafe Victoria are working together to improve service delivery to their stakeholders.  One of the key areas for collaboration is in the area of health.  The TAC and WorkSafe agreed to establish a shared services group to be known as the 'Health Services Group'.  The aim of the Health Services Group is to simplify processes and implement initiatives that support healthcare providers to achieve better rehabilitation and return to work outcomes for injured Victorians.  The group will also focus on preventative health and research and aim to build stronger relationships with healthcare providers.

Evidence Service

The TAC and WorkSafe Victoria are committed to evidence-based decision-making to meet the needs of Victorians who are ill or injured as a result of incidents on the road or at work.  In order to achieve this, TAC and WorkSafe have engaged the Centre for Clinical Effectiveness (CCE) in partnership with the Australasian Cochrane Centre (ACC) to deliver an 'Evidence Service'.

The Evidence Service will support evidence-based decision-making for relevant TAC/WorkSafe activities through provision of:

1. Evidence for clinical policy issues

     -

Provision of systematic reviews addressing clinical questions regarding therapeutic interventions, screening and diagnostic procedures, aetiology, prognosis and risk factors

-

Participation by an Evidence Consultant on committees and clinical panels to assist in utilisation of evidence and support policy making decision processes
- Identification and critical appraisal of existing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) or development of new CPGs

2. Evidence to address issues of interest and/or inform projects
 - Provision of literature reviews of epidemiological questions, models of care, etc

3. Other evidence-related services

Additional services may include, but are not limited to:
 - Capacity building for evidence-based decision-making within TAC/WorkSafe through provision of training workshops on a range of topics including evidence-based clinical practice; evidence-based process change; systematic reviewing; development, implementation and evaluation of CPGs
- Methodological assessment and advice on research projects to be funded by TAC/WorkSafe
 - Other evidence-related activities agreed upon by TAC/WorkSafe and the Evidence Service

4. Publication and dissemination of evidence-based information
Publication of systematic reviews and guidelines will enable informed decision making in other relevant clinical communities, will contribute to the international knowledge base in this field, and will establish TAC/WorkSafe as leaders in evidence-based policy and practice.
