History

The Healthy Ageing Research Unit (HARU) was established in September 2006 following the appointment of Professor Colette Browning in May 2006. Professor Browning facilitates ageing research as part of the Monash Research for an Ageing Society (MonRAS) strategic initiative. Dr. Jane Sims joined the Unit in June 2006 as a Senior Research Fellow. HARU manages a number of grants and initiatives in the field of ageing:

  • ARC/NHMRC Research Network in Ageing Well Healthy Ageing Program  http:// www.ageingwell.edu.au
  • Melbourne Longitudinal Studies on Healthy Ageing Program
  • Environmental Factors in Physical Activity and Ageing Program
  • Cultural Conceptualisations of Successful Ageing Program
  • Sensory Disability and Ageing Program

Goals

  • To conduct leading edge internationally oriented research in Healthy Ageing
  • To achieve high quality and high volume Healthy Ageing publication activities
  • To secure funding to resource Healthy Ageing research and publication activities

Highlights

  • The China Ageing and Primary Care Research Program: We have developed a number of research collaborations with our Chinese colleagues including involvement on the editorial boards of the Chinese Journal of General Practice.
